Air Purification Effectiveness

The Surround Air XJ-2000 and Ionic Breeze Quadra ionizers are comparable in effectiveness. Both use high densities of negative ions and moderate amounts of ozone to purify the air. (Learn more about how negative ions and ozone purify the air.)

Warranty

The Surround Air ionizers come with a three-year warranty. Many Surround Air ionizer customers have advised that they first purchased an Ionic Breeze, only to have it break down on them during the warranty period, and again shortly after the warranty period expired. Rather than pay to have it fixed, they tried the Surround Air purifier to determine if it would give them the same benefit, while offering much better reliability. Very few Surround Air ionizers ever require service.

Both ionizers are virtually silent.

Price

For about the same amount of effectiveness and coverage, the Ionic Breeze Quadra costs approximately four times as much as the Surround Air XJ-2000 ionizer, when buying a single unit. This allows you an affordable way to thoroughly purify the air in multiple rooms, or even the entire home, since one air purifier will have a difficult time purifying beyond the room in which it is placed.

Collector Plate

Both ionizers/air purifiers have a metallic collector plate to collect the high density of ionized particles within a few feet of the unit. Without this collector plate, many of these ionized particles would attach to walls and other surfaces within a few feet of the air purifier, causing a dark build up of residue.

Shape

The Ionic Breeze Quadra is a tall-standing unit, while the Surround Air XJ-2000 ionizer is more of a flat, table-top unit. This allows the Surround Air ionizers to be placed on bookshelves, entertainment centers, and other higher locations. Due to its shape, the Ionic Breeze will need to be placed either on the floor, or perhaps on a coffee table. Negative ion and ozone air purifiers are more effective if they can be placed at a higher elevation, since negative ions and ozone tend to work gradually downward. It is more advantageous to have a unit that fits onto higher surfaces in your home, such as the Surround Air purifier.

Housing / Enclosure

The Surround Air ionizers are encased in a ABS plastic which is highly durable. ABS Plastic offers substantial protection to the inside of the air purifier. The Ionic Breeze Quadra ionizers are housed in a plastic enclosure.

The Surround Air XJ-2000 has been discontinued.
